Does anyone know about this Beryl dump in Eastern Pennsylvania? Is collecting permitted also?
Thanks Tony

You'll have to ask Ma Beryl................. Sorry, can't help you. Just had to beat Leonardo to the punch line.

There is a strategic stockpile of Beryl from Russia or Conn that has been dumped somewhere in Eastern Pa. I saw Beryl crystals the size of basketballs! Now they are not gem quality, but awesome. However, the locale is still a secret!

The used to be a company named "BERYLCO" located off Route 422 just outside of Reading, PA. They had a large fenced in area filled with TONS of Beryl. Most of it was massive material but it also contained crystals weighing up to a few hundred pounds. I lived in the area in 1976 while in college and met a security guard there who allowed me to collect crystals off the pile after work. It was very enjoyable, but a little like fishing in a stocking pond. This Beryl was stockpiled by the US Department of Strategic Resources to be used in time of emergency to produce Beryllium. I passed by it recently and the company had closed and all of the Beryl had been removed. Maybe someone knows where it is now located. Good Luck.

Berylco is now NGK Metals Corporation. The US operations was moved to Sweetwater, TN. I would assume they took the stock piles with them since they are still manufacturing beryllium products.
