I see two eyes, scales, and a snout. I know this is not a fossilized lizzard head, so I believe it might be jasper.
When you slab it hold a slab up to the light if it is translucent it could be agate.

Are you sure its not a snake head, turned into jasper. What a cool looking rock . I would just put it on the shelf and show it off! Thanks for sharing it

Might be a snakes head. Now that you said snake I no longer see the lizzard.

The red areas remind somewhat of the Mary Ellen jasper from your area. You are finding some nice stuff! Keep up the hunt!

I'll have to do some research on Mary Ellen Jasper. From the images i glanced at, there should be quite a bit of that here. Thank you for your words of encouragement!

If you were from the south, I'd say you found a "genuwine" petrified skull of a rattleheaded copper mouth. But in MN, I think you have a very nice piece of agate. Should made some beautiful cabs with the reds and yellows.

As soon as I get some tools, I'll repost the results, so everyone will know what the snake head agate/jasper looks like inside, heh. If its some unique jasper, I'm naming it serpentimite...

Justarock, I thought I was the only one who knew about rattleheaded coppermouthed cottontail snakes. Nichwhitt, a dremel tool will polish a small area to see what it is like. Also, just plain old silicon carbide sanding discs, or belts from the local hardware will shape and sand the quartz /jaspers quickly. But it will get hot real quick if you are dry sanding.
