Hi everyone. I thought I would say hello, since I've posted without introducing myself.
I decided to join when I realized that I am always looking down at the ground !
I live in the Piedmont area of NC. I haven't visited any "sites", but I am always looking around when I go to the park, etc.
Please let me know if you know of a good place to find different types of rocks (was that a totally amateur thing to say?!)

Welcome Ardeliam, This is a great place to ask and find answers. One of the first rules of rockhounding is to always look down, Thats how you find your treasures just laying around waiting. Enjoy and Welcome Joanne

North Carolina is one of the best places in the US to find crystals. wncrocks.com....diamondhillmine.com are just two of many places to find info.....local rock clubs also...hope this helps.

There is M.A.G.M.A, wncrocks.com, Greensboro gem & mineral club, Catawba Valley Gem & Mineral Club, www.cvgmc.com. That's some of the Piedmont, that should get your rock garden and the envy of the neighborhood started!

Hi and welcome to the site. NC is a very good state to rockhound in so enjoy yourself. Good shows to see stuff and meet people at from the area. Franklin, NC summer shows finished Sunday and the crew have moved north to Spruce Pine where the Grassy Creek show runs thru the weekend. Be sure to check and see if there is a club in your local area you can join. Check up on the show calenders to see where the closest club shows are.... those are where you can meet like minded people. At the commercial promotors shows you rarely find that unless a club aligns with them. Have fun!
