Hi all. I am trying to identify a stone carving that I found recently by a creek. This area had just been dug up and trees cut down, etc. For all I know, I could have found someones old lawn ornament ! What I think about the carving is: 1. It looks hand-carved. 2. It looks like a turtle or fish head, and if you turn it upside down, it looks like an eagle's head. 3. It appears to have some other faint markings (besides the markings made by the carving). 4. For a lack of a better way to put it, it looks like a fine-grained stone.... 5. It is about 3 to 4 inches long. What I know about it : 1. I found it in an area that was recently dug up (and the trees cut down). By "dug up" I mean it was probably disturbed by the tree removal. 2. I did not have to dig for it (it was fairly close to the surface). Thanks in advance for your help. **I just looked at my post, and I think my photo is too large. I'll try to correct that ! There are a few interesting lines, angles, and flat surfaces
but overall it appears to be a rock made by Mother Nature.
I don't see any "carving" on it at all.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I'll have to take better photos of it. I definitely see where it is probably a product of Mother Nature. I think maybe our brains see what we are thinking, or tries to make sense of what we are seeing (and makes it look like something familiar to us even though it is a "regular" rock). I also have something that looks like a tooth or a point (I may be using the wrong word here) that I'll post. I will need to figure out how to modify my photo size. Thanks again!

Very Good, ardeliam, We would love to see some more pics of your finds.  I have been hunting rocks and artifacts for 40 years and still see rocks all the time that will test my imagination. It is amazing all the shapes and forms that are created naturally. Keep on Hunting, Joe |

wow a new digger . We do not have any clubs close only 6 ea and we are in the mineral belt probably the most different # of specimens in the world just small Several rock shows and lot of more . We are a frindly and helpful group of rock nuts . Sent ya a pm.

Cant really say if the rock is carved or not . appears as though it may be a piece of weathered Pike Peak Biolith Granite. we have had a large number of tectonic events ans volcanic events and there are billions of broken rocks around that have weathered and rounded . Lots of interesting shapes. The Indians locally were good at making points but made lots of pottery not much carving.
