A new club will be here soon! A club thats purely based on finding minerals and doing field trips. It will bring many people to new sites and we are gonna have new great sites to attend. We are gonna do many machine digs on site for the people. I have several locations right now that we can start. The first dig will be in about a month or so, I just have to get the land leased first. I will have to research the liability and things of that nature for the club, but we will get it all taken care of very soon.
Any thoughts/suggestions on what we could name the club would be great.
We want to try and make this a free club, or in the least charge a small yearly membership. I will be keeping you all updated on the club and post the website once its designed. We will be sending people to this forum for "rock talk" and will not be starting a new forum, just a website for info on our field trip and pictures etc. I believe the Lord is gonna bless our occasions and we will have great and exciting moments in the future together digging minerals!

Sounds like a plan. I personally have seen many of the new locations here in Georgia, South Carolina and the South-East and all are great and have potential. Many of the older generation and the older mine owners are opening up their spots now for digging so it will be good times. I would like to see this rule implemented....If you want to hate on people or gossip about others, then this club is not for you.

I have been collecting rocks for many years and am always excited to hear of a new club or new collecting opportunities. I would like to see a rockhound community where cooperation among the different clubs and societies is the norm. In that type of atmosphere, all could benefit and profit. I hope that all comments and attitudes can stay positive with your club and on this board. I also wish the best in your efforts and hope that I can join you on your rockhounding adventures.

If everyone would just get along then the South-East could rival the rest of the nation in rockhounding but as it be everyone seems to be to angry, bitter, or deceitful. I hope this club goes through and succeeds and everyone can dig peacefully and be friends. Some have forgotten that it's just about the rocks..it's always been about the rocks...it's just that big ego's get in the way. None of the federation clubs get along...none of the big private clubs get along..none of the mine owners get along...whats crazy is many of these fueds and much of the hatred comes from word of mouth...what someone else has told them...not from personal experience. It's sad really...just dig some rocks.

Somewhat ambitious program for someone who lists his age as 101 and birth date as 1911. I really don't have to know your age or birthdate, but you don't have to lie to me about inconsequential matters. Good luck with your new club. I've already decided I'll never be able to collect all the cool rocks, and am always glad to have new rockhounds take some of the digging and collecting pressure off my aching back. Rockshine (not my true name)

Great idea! I suggest Southeast Gem and Mineral Diggers (SGMD) as a name.

I have been out of town for a while digging. Finally back and getting started on this club and some events for it. Still have about 10 slots left for the "GEMS Club" Diamond Hill Machine Dig. Will have a large area of colluvial vein with large smokies and the occasional amethyst. This area is called colluvial because its from when the creek at one time was up so that it decayed the crystals out of there place into a gravel layer. SOme of the crystals are a bit worn, some are perfect and shiny. Many pulled out of the test areas can get big, into the 4-6" range for a single point. The area can hold a good 20 people so thats why there is the limit, want to make sure everyone that attends gets a good spot to dig. A day or two before I will be exposing the area with a 50,000lb trackhoe that will be arriving to the mine next week. This area once dug out will no longer be available to dig so this is one of those 1 time opportunities that you dont want to miss. This is a "GEMS Club" event so you must be a member of the club to dig. You can find out all the info on the club here www.thegemsclub.comAlso, the club will be able to have access to Diamond Hill a day early before Diamond Hills bi-annual "The Big Dig" event which in on April 7th. The Gems club members will be able to dig a day early on April 6th as one of the benefits of being a club member. If anyone has been to DH after a machine dig, you know how good it can get Thanks to all that have already signed up for the club, there will be many events coming up this year, and new spots to dig!! If I can locate the beryl/aquamarine vein at Diamond Hill, there will be a club machine dig for that coming up soon also!

Well I'm two months late but I think "JUST DIG" would have been a great name also for your new club! LOL. Good luck gang, hope to visit you soon from Wisconsin!
