Hi All,
I grew up in the AZ desert and collected rocks as a kid. I now have a seven year-old daughter now who seems to share my fascination with minerals.
We just came back from a couple of days of serious novice collecting from one day at the Tonopah-Belmont mine and one day at the Grey Horse mine in AZ. Altogether we came out with about 125 lbs of specimens, rather unscientifically collected(after all, she's 7). ;D
That was my first time hanging around old mines(we didn't enter - not at all prepared for it), and it seems like things have changed since I last collected minerals some 40 or so years ago.
Once I get everything sorted and identified, I intend to start a thread here - with pics, of course - and compare to what you relative experts are doing.
Oh yeah, we also are the proud owners of a two-barrel Lortone tumbler(I have a set of four barrels, one for each step), and have a complete set of floor-standing lapidary machines waiting for me to make room for them(a gift from a neighbor) - something I've never done before.
Try not to laugh too much as you walk me through all of this(or so I hope)...

Welcome My Friend, One thing you don't have to worry about here is someone laughing at you. Everyone here is friendly and always willing to help out a fellow Rockhound . I can't wait to see your pictures and finds. If you need any help with identifying your finds you can always post in the Can you Identify board and see if we can help. Take Care, Craig
