MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY HOLIDAYS to ALL!
HI Everyone........Glad to find you folks and this great place you meet in.
I am an artist, painter (oils, watercolors), also retired, an opalholic as well as adventurous traveling rock-hound. Philadelphia, PA is where I have spent most of my life and is still one home base. My winter home is Quartzsite, AZ in the warm desert climate amongst rock hounds and miners from around the world.
14 years ago I got hooked into this... in Spruce Pine, NC at the Gem Mountain sluices looking thru a bucket of concentrate...... it's like being a kid back in the sandbox...not a worry in the world...wonderful therapy! Tried faceting....too slow n tedious as well as hard to find the right teacher for the caliber of cutting that interested me. Moved on to cabbing where my artist composition knowledge helps me immensely. I know create wearable art from Nature's Goodies for people to wear and enjoy; this I love!
An acquaintance showed me 70 flats of Morenci AZ, malachite and azurite specimen's he collected in 1995 while he managed a collecting crew there at the Phelps Dodge Corp mine. Such incredible work of nature I had only seen in museums....the price was right and I bought them all! Hooked into specimen's now as well....ha ha ha
I travel a lot and hope to meet many of you good people in person; hopefully playing in the dirt together. I excel in saws, cutting and grinding tools, designing as well as repairs. I am happy to assist others with my experience and knowledge.....I enjoy participating and giving back what has been shared with me. I also am already enjoying reading all of what you folks are sharing......thank you one and all!
Great to be on board this "Rockin Express"!
