You know, like the old song says,
"Rainy Days and Hump Days always bring me down."
Dah, Dah, Blah, Blah.
We've all had 'em.
I gotta wonder what kindof day this Late Archaic Guilford guy was
having some 5000 years ago.
It doesn't look that bad from that side, but turn it over,
and you can see the "Hump".
Ah yes, the Psychology of Archaeology.
The point is made of some of our local NC Rhyolite and true to it's
nature, it works well from one side in one direction, but will give
you fits trying to work it back in the other direction. It just wants
to "stack up" like this one did.
So I have to wonder just what kind of day was this guy having
and how bad did he need to get a good point out of this piece
of rock? Was the wife pacing around the fire pit complaining that
there was nothing to cook and how hungry she was?
So that leads us to the question; Do you think this point was ever
actually used?
Do you think he went ahead and went to the trouble to haft it to
a spear? What do you think his buddies would say if he showed
up for the Big Hunt with a spearpoint with a Big Hump like this?
I don't think he could stand the embarrassment and probably
chunked this thing on the ground, in the area I happened to find
it,.......... and went fishin'.
What do you think?
