I have a great number of free specimens to give away to any educator who wants to come get them at my shop here in central North Carolina. Colorado, this is for you. My earlier offer for the hundred bucks is now free if you can come up. In the last couple weeks I've been going through my stock and pulling out lower end specimens that would be great for teachers. Of course this is not just limited to teachers, but I would prefer to give them first crack. Anyone interested let me know. We are talking about anywhere from a flat to a trunk full. It's time to start giving more back to this hobby that has given me so much.

Laurie, I would love to take you up on your offer. I teach seventh grade science at a poor school. Most of our students are on free or reduced lunch. I have been asked to put together a mineral collection by my assistant principal. I started off with my extra specimens, but with your generous offer we can expand the collection.
This will not be for my own use but the schools. I am sure that the principal will be glad to send you a letter thanking you for your donation. I will try to get down to your place next week. Thanks, Dan ;D

Sounds great Dan. I'll load you down. To have this stuff sitting around here serving no good purpose is just not right. The hobby of rockhounding is dying with our youth. We need to encourage our young people to catch the bug. Go to any club meeting these days and 95% of the people are old. When I was young the opposite was true. It was the kids constantly dragging the parents to rockshops and mines. The more we can do to reverse this trend, the better. I have a gracious plenty of stuff, so I can load Dan down and still have plenty left to give away to others, so don't hesitate to join Dan and let's get some kids excited about rocks. The overall philosophy of Dirrtyrocks has become my feelings as well, let's not be selfish, and let everyone share a part of this great hobby. I used to want to keep everything a secret, now I have learned that sharing is the best way to go. (Of course I still have some secrets that won't fall into that category!) Thanks Dan, look foreward to seeing you!

Dicky, unfortunately this is stuff that needs to be picked up here at the shop. Too expensive to ship. Vacation to NC? (Then I can stow away in your trunk and go back to Colorado with you!)
