Hello everyone! I just joined the forum today. I have been lurking for a while and really enjoying seeing some of the great rocks and minerals you guys have been showing here on the forum. We have a few fossils here and lots of Tallahatta Quartzite. I hunt arrowheads and most around here are made from TQ. Tallahatta Quartzite comes in a variety of colors and sometimes can be found with a "snowflake" pattern. Really nice! I recenty aquired a rock collection that mostly came from out west. There is a lot of petrified wood in the collection. I was amazed to see how colorful the pet wood was from out that way. Really cool! I hope to learn from all you experts and enjoy "rocks" even more!

Welcome Mikie. This is a great place to learn and "dig" vicariously.
I would like to see some pics of the TQ points/projectiles/tools if you get a chance. I have become really interested in seeing quartzite "worked". I assume it would be more challenging than chert.

Welcome to the board, Mike. Earthnhands said it right...time for pictures of your pretties. Any Mississippi pet wood in your area? Have any extra TQ for sale or trade? Dave

Thanks for the welcome everyone! Earthnhands: I will post a few of my TQ points over in the artifact area after lunch. AND yes, I have heard it is more challenging to work than chert! BUt the ancient people did a pretty good job on some of it. Botanyme: I am in Meridian.... (east central Mississippi) Rockshine: Yes we do have some pet wood over here. I know of one creek around here that is LOADED. There are some pieces too large to carry. Jim: I will be in touch soon. I want to someone to get a look at some of the pet wood that came from Wyoming. I found a letter from the guy that found it. He described some unusual finds in his letter to a professor at the University of Alabama dated 1947.
My best to all!
Mike

Welcome to the board, Mike. Earthnhands said it right...time for pictures of your pretties. Any Mississippi pet wood in your area? Have any extra TQ for sale or trade? Dave Hello Dave, A friend of mine has permission to go to a local creek that has tons of pet wood in it. I originally went looking for artifacts so the pet wood was of little interest at that time. Now I want to go back with a pet wood gathering mission in mind. Lots of the pieces in that creek were firewood size.... some larger. I will probably get some TQ for trading in the next few weeks. Right now all my TQ is in the form of artifacts. Although I do have a bunch of broken points that are really good specimens of TQ. Mike
