I was digging deep when I found this, ...deep in a cardboard box of long story origin. Is it fluorite? Would it be worth cutting it to a more appropriate shape?

Looks Lemurian to me. Green and purple amethyst blended into a mind-bending piece with a perfectly flat termination opposite the point. Definitely a keeper.

I'd definitely say fluorite as well. Be real easy to tell for sure with a simple hardness test. If they were able to cut it into this shape, then you "ought" to be able to cut it how you'd like. But be careful, fluorite is real soft, and for me, hard to cut. Takes some practice. Joe

The end looks roughed up. Was it a pendant at one time perhaps? Like a new age crystal necklace?

I don't know exactly where it came from. Lemurs maybe. I think they are known for mind-bending blends. It came in a box of rocks from someone who was very into crystal healing so there is some bizarre stuff like this piece but some nice specimens of staurolite, barite and quartz.

That'd be yer classic fluorite healing wand, carefully chopped out by someone making a modest living in China. With all those colors it ought to be good for just about whatever ails you unless you're verklempt over the original owner. <g>
You mustn't cut it though Tim. The energy will all be lost. Would be prettier rounded though.
Lemurian, Matt? I know you know those are always clear...

Which is more important? Energy or aesthetics? I have no verklemption toward the original owner as I never knew her so I'm thinking about just healing some stuff.

I wouldn't separate this specimen from its "friends" in the box! You might break the "reiki" magic, as in
"Reiki don't loose that number, it's the only won(sic) you own...You might use it if you feel better when you get home"
"We hear you're leaving, that's ok I thought our little wild time had just begun I guess you kind of scared yourself, you turn and run But if you have a change of heart"
oops... got carried away
