I did some sluicing and panning today in the Uwharrie National Forest. It was a beautiful day and got some nice gold.

Nice colour.......An ounce a week is a good part time job. If I could find an ounce a week that would be my full time job.

Hello, The Uwharries are a popular area for hunters so wear bright colors and whistle loudly (anything but Yankee Doodle" should be safe) around hunting season. And during warm weather watch out for snakes. I surveyed much of the Uwharries back in the spring and early summer of 1980 and there was seldom a day that went by that I didn't run up on a snake or two (one day I walked up on a dozen or so sunning on the same rocky hillside in the Flat Swamp area of the Uwharrie chain). One woman I know got bitten by a Copperhead near Murrow Mt. It took months for her to get her health back.
