Hi, I'm from N Iowa, just transplanted from So. Cal. Been hounding for many years and collected mainly in Cal. Az. Utah, Col, Mn. and New Mex. My newest thing is fluorescent mineral collecting.

Welcome to the board. Did your collection move with you, or are you rockless in IOWA?

Yeah, Welcome BC. That's moving from one extreme to the other. Atleast you're a lot closer to Sturgis! I wonder how many types of Sioux Quartzite there are? Joe

Thanks for the warm welcome. Yes the collection came with me. I bought a trailer to move everything in. What it was filled with was my rocks, my trike, and my plants. Oh yea, and a few other things. Ha! Yes I'm closer to Sturgis and will probably run over for a few days to meet up with friends from a biker board I frequent.
As for the quartz, I'll have to check that out. I know that there are alot of fossils around here and further in Mn a location of mary ellen jasper that i've heard about, also some pyrite etc. to look for and of coarse agate. Will collect what i can.

Hi B.C.
I live a hundred miles north of you, hey it is prime time to walk farm fields agate collecting. What county are you in? I have seen some super nice Lake Superior agates found in North Iowa!

Hi di66er, I'm in Mitchell county, Stacyville Ia. So are you north of the cities? Funny you should mention agates today. Was just talking to a lady who says the kids around here seem to find them too. One of my brothers collects artifacts in S. Mn. and says he see's agate all the time, but doesn't pick it up. Says he's saving space in his collecting bag for the knife points, arrowheads and such. Crazy huh? ;D

You are living it a good place to find agates alright, people have found some really nice agates in nearby towns. I like spending these first warm sunny spring days walking field rows agate picking. I hope you get to have the thrill of finding a nice Laker, let us know if you do! J T Attachments:
