Some were quartz, but these looked different. first is a group shot: Are these calcite? If so, are quartz and calite frequently found near each other?

Calcite is much softer... can you scratch them with a knife? If not, they're probably quartz also. Soak them in dilute bleach and then super iron out after rinsing to clean them up.
