We watched a move today and it stated "gold is a mineral", but the book states it is a mineral. Mr. Davis states a rock is 2 or more minerals. SO Is gold a mineral that makes up a rock or an element that is contained in the rock? Core 2

The way you've worded your question is a bit redundant. Gold is a Native Element, but it is also a Mineral. Many Minerals are Native Elements. Just depends on whether you are talking Geology or Chemistry. But it's quite elementary, my dear Colorado, If you find a rock with gold in it, PICK IT UP!, and mail it to me. ;D Joe

You can also look up 'gold' on mindat.org You will see a beautiful image of a gold crystal-definitely a character of a mineral! Gold can also be found diffused throughout rocks, as in most commercially mined deposits today. And with gold increasing in value, now's a great time to learn about panning for a real 'rush'.

"We watched a move today and it stated "gold is a mineral", but the book states it is a mineral." should had read... We watched a move today and it stated "gold is a mineral", but the book states it is an element. Colorado
