Some of the epidote xls are about 1/4" but I can't seem to get in close without the picture blurring. So much for an $800 camera.

when I was doing real close with extra fine detail we used the Nikon 55 MICRO . it had a ring flash also with controlable light spectrun. If I remember the focus was great from 1mm to infinity.
Dont even know if that sort of thing exist anymore.

Just curious, but did you try a UV lamp on them? That might be worth checking out.
