Here is a big big chunk of ore with one side totally covered in tabular barite crystals from the locality I have been digging in lately here in Oregon. Attachments:

Here are a few large, broken off crystals that I purchased that came out of the barite mine about a decade ago Attachments:

And here is a smaller, fits-in-the-palm-of-your-hand, sized piece that I purchased as well. Attachments:

Kepp a diggin! The only baryte I've ever dug was in rosette form near Cartersville Georgia. I like the tabular crystals you have.

That's cool stuff. You think any of the stuff you have is gem grade? I've seen barite crystals in a few shades, some of it looked like aqua when cut. Thanks for posting. Tom.

Tom, I do have some gem grade but they are quite small, and most of them are totally clear. I'm hoping that as I dig further down into the vein I get away from the more damaged crystals. The floaters are really interesting. They lose their tabular habit and change to a richly prismatic/faceted habit. The large plate in the first pic is about 2' across in each direction, some of those crystals are up to 1.5 inches. More pics to come...
