A lot of the quartz veins, or fissures, that you get into around here are all ready fractured from earth rocking events that happened a long time ago. So when you are digging in these veins it's best to try and keep up with all the broken pieces you are pulling out. Some of them might fit together. Here are some pieces I pulled out last week. They have been cleaned in Iron Out, but this is how they were. Most of these fractures, having happened a long time ago, show signs of "re-healing", ( which is a great name for it.) The degree of re-healing that has taken place will vary considerably from area to area or even, pocket to pocket. Some quartz will be too well re-healed to fit back together, the original break or fracture being altered too much. These pieces show only slight healing. And they ought to "snap-fit" back together, so you know they're a match. The more you put'em together and take them part, the more you are wearing down that nice snug fit. Together at last. So now we've got. And the two pieces on the left fit together like this. A little more Epoxy and......................... Hey, beats the daily crossword puzzle! Now you can throw it away knowing you've "put the pieces back together again"! ;D Joe

Joe, looking at your pictures I see a little chunk of your thumb nail is missing. Maybe you should wear gloves more often when you're digging in those quartz veins ;D

Hey Rb, Yes, it's perfectly acceptable to glue a specimen back together and do whatever with it, as long as you let everyone know it has been. Now whether or not a specimen "should" be glued back together is a whole nother question. That would depend completely on the specimen and who you talk to. Some might say glue it, and others might not. This specimen is not much better now that it's back together, but I was surprised I had all the pieces and just had to see what it looked like. Joe

Now when your talking about a crappy specimen like the one Joe put together -- of course its perfectly okay to glue it back together, in fact no would argue with whatever you decided to do with it!! He he, just giving you a hard time Joe. That is cool that you kept all the pieces. I most likely would have left them all in pieces where I found them never finding out that they all fit back together.

I love the puzzle aspect of your post! Great job! Now with emeralds, when I bust any, which isn't too often, I'm too busy crying to glue them back together! Ha!
Love and Light, Tom.

I would be too, Tom. Specially if it was big enough to glue back together. Joe
