I cut this for a friend in Auburn, GA who is now a MAGMA member, I think.
The only error is that it has 161 facets. I added an extra tier to stack the crown and keep more stone.
It did not look this stunning wet and mid dry. It was a stunner, but it dried and kicked it up a notch.

I found it easy to cut. We first used a diamond burr to remove the pumice, then cut it just like I would sunstone (and no cleavage plane!) Polish with my Greenway (Gearloose) was easy. I used a 1200 diamond, 3k diamond BATT, and the Greenway.

George has come along very quickly in his art, been more than happy with the pieces he has cut for me! Great work as always, and love the video format.

Man oh man!!! I absolutely love the video format you presented this in George!!!!! I have a few pieces of this waiting to be cut and hope it comes out as well. I agree with you that opal can be easy to cut, BUT have had one piece just crumble when I soaked it to take off the dop. Seems it had been opticonned and that stuff could not hold up to the paint remover (methylene chloride) I use to dissolve epoxy. I have cut a good bit of the jelly opal from Mexico and a piece of Coober Pedy that all came out great though. I rough on a 600, go to 1200 and then cerium oxide to polish. Keep cutting, you do a great job.

I can't take credit for that video. Jerry shot that one. But it runs much like what I do with my HDV camera. I found that the video camera does much better with color than stills. Hmmm... I should shoot the DH I finished and the enhydro chip.

After seeing this stone, I bought a few pieces of this opal at our show today. I just hope it comes out close to the quality of this one.

Jerry said the secret to faceted opal is counter-inituitive. You want it to window. Cut in under the critical angle.
