Last night I played around with my small portable UV (SW/LW) light and photographed some of my specimens. Here is a sample of some of the North Carolina minerals I photographed: Hyalite Opal: McKinney Mine, Mitchell Co., NC Hyalite Opal: Chalk Mountain Mine, Mitchell Co., NC Fluorapatite: Hawk Mica Mine, Mitchell Co., NC Dogtooth Calcite: Wake Stone Quarry, Lee Co., NC Autunite (Meta-autunite): Old No. 20 Mine, Yancey Co., NC I am in the process of making a stand to hold the UV lamp so I can use two hands on the camera to get sharper images. Thanks for looking. Peace, Dennis

Photos are nice. What camera are you using for the in the dark photos? Hard to get colors on weaker minerals.

Hey, KoolAid:
I used a Canon PowerShot A590, 8.0 megapixel camera. Since I did the shoot on the spur of the moment, I did not have a stand for my mineralight. I had to hold the lamp in my left hand and the camera in my right hand. Some of the shots were on the Auto setting, and others on the Program setting with the autofocus off. I was lucky to get some decent shots by using one hand to focus and press the button.
Peace, Dennis
