Found this is southeastern Montana while fishing. I have given it a rough polish to show the color better. It is translucent in areas, has a hardness between 6 and 7. Very dense. Attachments:

Looks like some form of jade.

I was thinking jade also, but I couldn't find any mention on the net of jade occurring in that area of Montana. Still, at this point I am thinking it is jade also.

Montana isn't out of the question for jade. it is either nephrite or a massive vesuvianite (idocrase)...an SG test will tell you which. If it is really a 7 then i would guess the vesuvianite.
