Well, the property we have been holding our annual get together on has been sold so we were not thinking we were going to be able to hold the event this year. As it turned out, interested parties did not want to take no for an answer, and were instrumental in helping us find a new site. I have high hopes that this new site will work out for many years to come. I am going to try and post the flyer and then the text again after. Keep your fingers crossed.

Well Shoot, Scott! That looks great! I don't even have to reprint the text! Thanks! Even Steve ought to be satisfied with the size of that! I will be posting more about scheduled activities as the time gets closer. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Hope to see a lot of you there, Joe

Went out to the new site this morning to figure out the layout and took a few pics of the place. Ofcourse the field will be mowed by then but this first pic is where most of the action will be. In front of the woodpile, at the curve in the road. Tents, vendors and demonstrators on the left side of the road and the archery range on the right. The road goes straight left out to the main road, Old NC 86, which is also called Old Fayetteville Road in some sections. There are two cars on the road in the left background of this pic, so you can see there's plenty of room to move around. We are in about the middle of the field here. Besides being a historic property another interesting feature of this site is at the other, or north, end of the field. I don't know the history of this stone 'structure' yet, but the residents call it "Stone Knoll". Whoever built this went to a lot of effort and expense. There are plaques on each major direction stone and each direction is designated Eagle, Bear, Coyote, or White Buffalo. Center Stone I'm just taking it all as good omens. Here's one last pic from the top of Stony Knoll back down toward the south. The entrance to the Knap-In will be right where that white tent is in the left center of the pic. Hope a lot of you will drop by, or campout for a night. Joe

I don't know who built this, Rebecca. It does not look like it is any sort of 'official' Native American dedication. I assume a group of folks in the area had it erected and it is maintained by the local community watch group. I want to find out the history behind it. If you come to the knap-in we'll put you in charge of the investigation. Scout Earthnhands. Joe

Well, folks I'm just as MAD as I can be at MYSELF! I just noticed that my contact info on the flyer is wrong. I had to correct it once and didn't even look close enough to see that it still wasn't right the second time. I'm ill, embarrassed, and alot of other things I can't say here. Anyway, here's the correct contacts; jmoylan1002@nc.rr.com 919-632-6794 Thanks, Joe

Sure have, jc, thanks for asking. We've got a post on both those boards. And I really wanted to get in touch with you about getting some of that FINE coral from you to offer to the folks coming to knap, but decided I had enough going on for this year getting my own stuff together. I would still like to get some sometime. Heck, next year you may want to bring up a truckload yourself. And I've got to say, I think the folks on this board would love to see some of that Boulder Opal you posted on PA. That's some great material and you did a great job on those cabs. Thanks, Joe

For those who have not been to the Knap-In in the past, you should make an effort to attend this years event. I went the first year and had a great time. There were plenty of activities, active demonstrations, and fun events for people to get a real feel for the primitive ways. I encourage you to come out and see what it is all about. A lot of people put a lot of time in to make this a first class event so let's support their efforts.

Thanks very much, Lee. I'm really looking forward to going back in time for a weekend. Hope you can make it out.
I do have to report a new development. Due to the extremely dry conditions in our area, the property owners have decided today that they do not want to risk any campfires getting out of control. We will be camping in fields of cut grass and hay that is extremely dry, so there is tinder everywhere. The county is about to initiate a burn ban. So, I'm sorry, but No campfires will be allowed.
Hey, but atleast we ducked the hurricanes!

I spoke with Joe late this afternoon and he indicated that he was already on the site and was setting up for the Knap-In. It sounds as though there will be a lot of people demonstrating knapping. Should be fun for all.

Well, Another Knap-In has come and gone and I think everyone that attended had a good time. The weekend goes by pretty fast. It was great to see a few familiar MAGMA faces there and we were able to show beginners of all ages the fundamentals on how to get started knapping.
I'll get an event report up in the next few days.
Thanks, Joe
