I noticed that the second sentence in the article on your first link says, “Only California has a state rock, serpentine.” Obviously, the reporter didn’t do their research very thoroughly. Although many states have never designated an official state rock, quite a few others have. Here’s a link to an interesting list (with photos) of state minerals, state rocks and state gemstones that’s worth taking a peek at. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._state_minerals,_rocks,_stones_and_gemstones

Colorado's state mineral is Rhodochrosite!... which happens to be my favorite and unfortunately expensive to obtain a decent sample of.
No offense to anyone in California but that's the dumbest damned thing I've ever heard.
Remember folks; these are the same people who have shut down the mining industry here in the US and effectually sent all of our jobs overseas.
Environmentalism without restraint.

Interesting parlay of thought here. All I have to say is, the state gemstone of North Carolina is emerald and I love it! Thanks!
Love and Light, Tom.
BTW I'd love to get a decent specimen of rhodochrostie! Any ideas?

Tom,
Regarding any future Rhodochrosite acquisitions... you're probably going to have to do what I'll be doing next year... stepping up to the plate and spending around $200 for a nice crystal.
Quality Rhodochrosite crystals are hard to come by... and one of the only real sites here in Colorado is closed to all forms of collection.
In my opinion- The Sweet Home mine produces the most beautiful crystals anywhere... period. To me it will be worth the small price to own a chunk of this small but gorgeous mineral.
