Just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. My name is Ira and I live in Denver, Co. I'm what I would call an intermediate rockhound... been at it about six or seven years. The wife and I love it... the kids not so much... but that's what grandparents are for. My passion is agates and petrified wood. The wife's is crystals of any type. So, we compromise and hunt in a variety of areas here in Colorado and Utah. Looking forward to hanging with others having the same passion. Ira

Welcome to the board Ira. Hope you can come east and dig with us sometime and meanwhile share vicariously in our adventures and misadventures.

I would love to see some new places for rockhounding! Personally speaking... I've never been east of DIA (Denver International Airport) .... most of my travels have been in Colorado, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada. My favorite rockhounding site is Yellow Cat flats in Utah. Desolate is understating the isolation found at this site. If you don't bring it with you... it aint there... and that includes water... as the local water is all contaminated with Uranium and arsenic. Anyhow.... yeah.... I need to expand my horizons. ;D Ira

I'd love to see some of that Yellow Cat wood if you have any you'd like to post pictures of. Beautiful stuff and I'm not even a cabber.

Mark.... I'd love to tell you that I have bunches of the "Red Wood"... but alas... at this point I've scored the big ZERO. I've found bunches of agatize barite nodules, slabs of barite, petrified wood (in varying colors... but not red), brilliant carnelian agate etc etc etc... but no carnelian limb casts. In my opinion, the experience of hanging out in the "bad lands" for the afternoon is rewarding enough. I'm planning a two or three day camping excursion out there (hopefully) in September so Lord willing, maybe I'll find some. ;D Ira

I hope you get it. That's the grail for that area.
