This lump turned out pretty nice slabbed. We weren't sure what it was before cutting, and ain't sure what to call it now. Maybe Butterfly Jasper. (Practicing Primitive Photographer) Lump. End. Joe

Joe, that looks like it has rings like a tree. Could it be some petrified wood? Rick B

Ya' know, Rick, I really don't know about this one. The growth progression thru the rock is pretty cool. It looks to me like the materials filled a round cavity of some sort more like an agate layers. And then something else happened and something else happened... I'm just not thinking wood though. I've returned it to the owner, but would like to get another look at it. He's going to keep it as a specimen and not cab it up. I'm pretty sure he said it was from Oregon but will have to double-check on that.
Hot enough for ya'? Joe

Nice material, almost reminds me of Morrisonite or some other classic jasper. It could be some kind of perified bog material with wood and other organics mixed together like Gary Green/larsonite jasper.
...maybe it is just the picture but I search for jasper and I probably would have passed that piece over, makes me want to slab everything I find!
