Hi all It's a crappy, rainy day here, so no jade hunting. I took the kid up to the Tate Geological Museum at Casper College to see a new mammoth exibit they have there, and took a few quick pics of their Jade collection. They have one of the finest and probably the largest collection of Wyoming Jade of any museum anywhere, although only a small fraction of it is on display. Most of the Jade there was donated by a geologist named Glenn Goss, who was a friend of my fathers. Anyway, hope you enjoy the photos... Apple Green wind slick.... Black Nephrite with magnatite Jade cobble worked by Native Americans.... More jade artifacts.... Raw nephrite showing the fiberous habit.... Backlit slabs of different colors and types of Wyoming Nephrite... Nephrite and Thullite cabachons.... Large Jade boulder with my 9 year old son for scale.... Hope you enjoyed the photos....next time I'm up there I'm going to see if they will let me take some photos of some of the specimens not on display (they usually will let you look if you ask and they are not busy...) That's very cool! My dad was one of Glenn's students, and went on many jade and rock hunting trips with him. Some of the nicest pieces of jade in my personal collection were given to my dad by Glenn...the collection he donated to the Tate is an amazing one, a lot of hours searching the prairie in that collection!
Do you still live in Wyoming?
