That's GREAT to hear, Pete! I know it's a load off your mind. Best of Luck with it! And, man, those are some incredible natrolite specimens! I would love to recover something like those from a pocket sometime. Great job and find. Thanks for the pics. Joe

Thanx guys. I appreciate it. And Joe any time you want to come up my way to collect I will certainly take you to UNS. There is always a good chance you can come across natrolite pockets or combo pockets with natrolite. There seems to be one particular area where the natrolite is more prolific. The only trouble is that a lot of the pockets get so packed with xls that they actually fill in and become solid masses. And terminated xls are not the norm. Just let me know if you ever come up this way and you and I there.

Congrats Pete! Sorry haven't had much time to check this site lately. Been working nights doing smallmouth bass survey work on the Lehigh River M-F and working days Sat and Sun. Consequently I haven't had much time to go out collecting. Will be done in a couple weeks, though, then hopefully I'll get some time.

I just got back from my trip that took me through PA. We didn't stop at the Phoenixville site (I got scared away by the poison ivy) but we went through St. Clair and found the fern fossils. Oh, my, what fun! I have never seen anything like that in my life, and I am now the proud owner of some really nifty fossil ferns!

Good to hear you got some nice fossils Lizziebird. I'd love to go fossil hunting someday. I think I have about 2 or 3 fossils of my own and I didn't find them.

This side of PA (West, Steeler Nation) has all the fossils you need Scott. If you ever journey north, I can take you to a few spots. P.S. You guys were very generous when I came down there. If you want a few ferns, just tell me. And Alas, Still no go on those shovels. :-( All our Wallymarts are starting to get snow shovels in. I got one more I wanna check.

As always, Thanks for the report and pics, Pete. Those are all fine specimens but the calcite is very nice. The blue flame is a nice touch, too. Very creative of you. I'm sure the ingredients of your granite pie chip is top-secret stuff. Joe

Joe, The "recipe" is under patent and yes it is top secret stuff. But I can tell you this there is nothing in it that is not commercially available. The real secret is what they do with the mix after it is all blended together.
Rebbecca, The color of the prenhite is a pale green in sunlight. It looks much better in the sunlight then in artificial light.
I am heading back out this weekend (Sunday) to go for more. Can't wait!!!! ;D

Hi all, It has been a while since I posted about some new finds and meeting a couple of fellow hounds this fall. First I met up with Mike from CT.(stonebuster) He and I met up at New Street back on the 14th of Nov for some collecting. He and I did alright for the day. Nothing to spectacular. I came home with a stilbite xl group that was worth keeping and a apophylite/analcine xl group but that was about all. (Mike I have not forgotten that I need to send you some specimens) Then on the 27th of Nov I went back to New Street with Carl. (Cbass) He and I did a little better that weekend. Well actually a lot better. I think Carl went home with about 30-40 lbs of specimens or at least 4-6 flats worth. Some nice combo specimens of prenhite/calcite/natrolite/pectolite and analcines. We hit several pockets after much digging. I let Carl take the vast majority of specimens. I can always go back. Carl not so easy so I wanted to make sure he went home happy since he did drive up form NC. Anyway the pics below are from both weekends. The first ones are of where I dug with Mike and then Carl. The pocket I found when I was with Mike is pretty big and the ones of digging with Carl show where we started and then stopped. The prenhite pockets were found under the rubble and dirt that was used to fill back in the hole a little. It was about 4-5 feet deep at one point. The specimen pics are of the 3 specimens I kept from collecting with Carl and the two I kept from collecting with Mike and the last was of a Moores Station specimen I had to play with with the new camera I got for xmas. Thanx for looking. Happy New Year everyone. Pete Prenhite with micro chabazite xls Prenhite and stilbite xls on top Stilbite xl group Water clear analcine and apophylite xl pocket Anacline xl group a little bigger than a half dollar for the largest xl. Small (1/4") stilbite bow tie with marcasite xls. Damn cool specimen. Too bad its not bigger.

Hello PA/NJ area Rockhounds, I hope everyone has been well. I wanted to ask if you all would like me to create your own sub-board. Since this thread does receive a considerable amount of traffic, I thought it might be easier for everyone if I made a new Sub-Board or Category for your group. Let me know, I would be happy to do it.
Take Care, Craig

Craig, All is well in my neck of the woods. I think a sub board/category would be fine. I post to this pretty frequently and just to keep what is going on up this way and not down by the majority of the people on this board my be worth while. If no one else has a problem I sure don't.
Pete
PS pics of last trip out later today.

Hi Pete and Pa/NJ, I just think if I created you all your own board it would allow the Rockhounds in your area to find the board easier. So, I will start on it. I hope you've been well.

Please point me to that new board location, Craig. I'd like to get in touch with the members who commented on this thread, and I think it would be nice to make a list somewhere that summarizes all of the spots mentioned in this thread. The information is splendid... how to capture it with complete state names and with acronymns for locations defined in order to make it easier for newcomers to the board?

Great Ideas!!!! I still haven't started the sub board but I will over the next few days. I will keep the tread name the same and will place it above this section.

That first pic is of the entire specimen. About 5" across. This next one is a close up of the xl group at the top of the specimen. Looks much better in person than in the photo. Just could not get a good pic of this one. Thanx for looking Pete Attachments:
