Someone who is a regular here wanted a doorknob class stone from Diamond Hill Amethyst that he has. So, I went for size. And this is big. 21.1mm. 38cts. It has some flaws that show, but Nbr 2 was supposed to be big. We have more.... (Nbr 1 was a try at capturing an enhydro on a chip - it split across the enhydro as I was removing the 1st dop ) Being that I like to cut Internally Flawless, it bugs me a little, but it is still way cool. The design is Squartuguese by Marco.

I agree, way cool.
Looks like a nice cut, that giant table looks like it was challenging.
I too have been allowing a bit of flaws/personality on stuff I have been cutting from DH, JXR also.
Sometimes the color is what drives the size of the cut. The zones and phantoms keep things interesting.
I like to cut internally flawless also. At first I was wary about leaving in a few "things" but... It is amazing how they all look good when you are finished.
thanks for posting it.

The table was a bear. I found that with the Greenway, for something that large, use 3k and 50k diamond. I also had to cheat a little by rotating the stone a little in the 45 degree block and hit it from some different angles to get the whole thing polished. It took a lot more than 10 seconds...

seems as you are getting somewhat of a tilt window in your photo..i bet the overall color is like the purple towards the lower side of the cutlet?? yes??

George, I like the cut. I'm guessing it's like a square Portuguese cut. I've only started cutting stones with large tables and facets and have already experienced that problem too. Do you have problems with a "fish eye" effect when you rotate the stone in the 45 block?

No problem with fish eye, it just has such a large table, you get a tilt window. The design is in the Gemology Online Project by Marco V.
