Many of you have seen the downloadable files for the Agate/Jasper Database. If you've downloaded the ones from east of the Mississippi River, you'll note there is not much material there (Florida coral excepted). - Kentucky Agate, for example, doesn't have a specimen.
We are requesting images of material from any of the great states east of the Mississippi to be used to help improve the database and therefore be more helpful for fellow rockhounds. The images can be of rough, polished specimens, cabs, or tumbled stones. If you have any that you're willing to share, please post with a brief note on the region and its common name (if it has one.) Credit for the photo will be assigned to your name or online title (or not at all if that's your choice.) IM me that info if you prefer. If you have an on-line shop, I'll provide a link in the contributors section.
Though this database primarily focuses on quartz gem materials, any material that is used in lapidary can be posted - (barring faceting - beautiful as they are - they fall too far outside the scope of the book).
As this is not a field guide, direct directions are not necessary for material, but nearest town and county is appreciated. Also, if the material is known by different names, please provide those, as an index is being prepared which will include that information to help researchers.
There are many items that would be not readily known to people outside your states but you are quite familiar with. We'd love to see samples of these.
If in doubt, please POST! Where else will your show off material last in the public eye longer???
