Hi everyone, I'm pretty new to this hobby as a rockhound, but after only a few months and a few moderately cool finds I am basically hooked. Now I can't wait for my next days off to take my 5 year old son out to a new spot to dig for new treasures. Rain or shine you can find my little volvo on the side of some mountain on dirt roads that my car clearly isn't made for just to get closer to an interesting locale. I am pretty much shooting from the hip right now and everything I have learned so far has been from the internet and books. I am hoping to meet some new people that can show me the ropes and introduce me to some new sites. If anyone out there in northern nevada has any advice for me I am completely open. Oh and just to be more specific I live in fernley and regularly hunt in fallon, silver springs, fernley, and reno. I look forward to sharing my finds with all of you and so far everyone elses have been amazing. I am truly jealous.

If you can ever get down to the Truckee area you could hit Petersen Mountain (aka Hallelujah Junction). And PM me if you ever head down to the Incline Village/N Lake Tahoe area I can give you a killer smoky quartz/microcline spot that I go to every time I head out that way to visit relatives.

I'm a long time rockhound new to the Carson area.
Can you tell me/us where the Incline Village location is?
Just got done unloading a over ton of Jasper for the yard...it was a lot of rocks!

Hey Evsrock, The Incline Village is closer for you than it is for me... Just head to lake Tahoe from Carson and follow the shore line North pretty much to the Cali-Nevada border and your there. So have you done any hounding yet out here? Let me know if you find some spots out there.... I havent been searching near Carson yet. Been thinking about hitting the Lode areas near VA City.... But there are so many claims there it could be tricky. And If your ever up near Fernley or Fallon send me a PM and I can take you to some of my spots.

Full Disclosure: I know what kind of rock this is and the general area in which it can be extensively found, but what I am seeking is a "name" that the locals might have given to this curious (collectible) rock? I am trying to contact rockhounds who live in the Fernley Area and who have hunted in the Fallon, Silver Springs, Fernley, and east Reno area. Or anyone who may have also found this rock-type from this area. Again, I can give a name to this rock, but I would like to know: if there has already been a "rockhound" name (e.g., field-name, market-name, etc.) given to it by people more familiar with this specific rock. I will now try to attach images. OK here are some temporary links to the images: oi66.tinypic.com/2qs3ryf.jpg oi65.tinypic.com/2d7dojl.jpg Read more: dirtyrockhounds.proboards.com/thread/10577/locals-given-name-rock#ixzz5nfPKFj9e
