Tried out a new cut called the Dandelion cut. I used a marble to see how it would look first. It has a fairly normal pavilion but a hemisphere crown with circular facets. It a pretty strange cut and I would like some feedback on what people think. Thanks, Mickey

Do one in moon stone and it would look really like a real moon.

Mickey, that is neat!
It's a really interesting cut, not seen too much nowadays. I've seen where they polished the entire dome, then cut the circular shapes, and one where they didn't polish the hemisphere, then polished all the planes to make it look like two colors. It's an eye-grabber either way! Thanks for posting it.

That is very close to what we are doing this month for the cut of the month with the Atlanta Faceters Group. We are doing a pavillion on a marble, reversing, then adding the facets. The dome is similar to a cut listed in DataVue2.
The trick is figuring out how to create a girdle so it can be mounted in a standard mount.

George, This one's pavilion is just 16 facets cut to the center point. I completely understand the problem with the girdle. If ya'll come up with a solution, please let me know.

Rick, Sophia, Pat and Amguy, Never thought of it looking like the moon. It would be interesting to see it cut in moonstone and then leaving either the hemisphere or the facets unpolished. George, let me know if anyone in the Atlanta faceters tries to leave any of the surfaces unpolished.

What I am trying is SRB first tier, then 90. This creates little moons on the crown side. Then I have added a 75 to make the 90 smaller at the same index. When I transfer it, I will cut a 96, 12, 24, etc at 75-80. That might get a workable place for prongs. We will see.

Dear Mickey, found your post from 2010 and was wondering if you would know any background information of the Dandelion cut, like when and where it was developed or who created it. Greetings, Betty

Would be interesting to see feldspar (from The Sinkhole) with this cut.
