Yeah that's pretty cool, mickey. I've heard of cuttlefish bone casts
but didn't realize you were actually cutting the mold out of the bone.
So let me get this straight, ( some of us are a little slow
),
you had to carve the shape of the tooth into the bone? From your
finished product, it looks like you were able to 'press' the tooth into
the mold like with clay or something and create an impression of
the tooth. But from the video that doesn't look like it would be
possible?
And yes, I had a nice drive down to Aurora Saturday. I had to pick
up a load of tailings from the phosphate mine. We, the Tar Heel Gem
and Mineral Club, are going to have a little kiddie pool set up at our
show in April for the kids to sift thru for teeth and stuff. The mine
has been closed for field trips for over a year now due to changes
they are making, so the tailing piles infront of the museum is the
only spot accessible right now. But with all the brief but hard rains
they have had in the area lately it was pretty good visibility and
fairly easy pickings. The teeth in the tailings are mostly one inch
and smaller. There was a guy there from Alaska going thru the
piles. He was driving an old Volkswagon Fox with no reverse, his
front doors wouldn't lock, and one window wouldn't roll up all the
way, but he said he was getting 35 miles to the gallon.
I gave
him most of the teeth I found.
It was a pretty day.
