This is Hogg mine rose quartz with lace agate backing for doublet. It magnifies the lace agate and one is wrapped in gold filled and the other in sterling silver. Did these for postal. Ken

Ken, that is intriguing work. Have you ever tried backing the star rose quartz from Hogg mine with another stone? I saw an old doublet recently that someone had made by gluing a blue mirror on a star rose quartz - from the front, it almost looked like a star sapphire, from the side it was completely colorless.

Wow! The "lense" effect is just too cool!

Really makes the patterning pop to do those as doublets. Very nice Ken.
I gave my buddy Bob several pounds of Hogg Mine rose to cob down and split up for us. He was quite excited about it initially as he had several nice facet pieces ready to cut as well as scads of cab pieces. Said it was some of the best he'd been able to get anywhere. Couple months go by and then he tells me the color had largely dissipated from the facet grade pieces. Any of you had similar (or different) experiences with this material?

The piece that Ken used for these Doublets was a pale pink when I collected it over a year ago.It sat on my office desk for that long. This chunk was sittig on a business card.A month ago when I noticed how clear it was(I could literally read the card under it) I got the idea of having a Doublet made out of it.Yes it went from a pale Rose color to an almost clear quartz. But it is really the only piece that I have noticed that in .Even the tons of yard rocks I have they seem to have maintained nice color. what would make the rose quartz lose color? exposure to air? this doublet is pretty. but i don't see the rose quartz. is it on top or underneath? is it really thin and then polished; kind of like a glass lens on top of the agate?

Hey and yes Rebecca. The rose quartz is a clear dome on top of the agate. Actually acts as a lens that magnifies the agate. Again, I think this is a really great idea and makes for a unique beautiful cab. Joe
