Hi, I'm Ken Brandt, and I direct the Robeson Planetarium and Science Center in Lumberton, NC. I am taking a much needed vacation, and will be in the Gordonsville, VA area from Monday-Wednesday. I am hoping you can shed some light on good places to look for amethysts, beryls, and anything else that is 'a local treasure'. Thank you in advance for any info you can provide. By the way, a BIG thank you to the folks at Standard Minerals, and 'the usual suspects' for running an awesome MAGMA dig earlier today in Glendon, NC. I never knew pyrophyllite came in so many hues! Hi Ken, This is probably too late....go to varockhounder.com and then to "mineral mapping". It is such a great tool. I wish there was one for every state. It is at least a start for you. Happy hunting, Rebecca
