BEEP BEEP BEEP
This spot Scott and I are checking now is an old golfcourse off
Capital Blvd. here in the Capital City. I've heard the biggest Mega
Multi New Car Dealership in the southest is going in. What ever
it will be, now it's a whole lot of freshly dug earth. ;D
It is some of the easiest, most conveinient rockhounding I have
ever done. Just follow the cart path up to the first big pile of dirt
you see.
And as you all know, having the right tools for the job is a must,
so I traded my trusty walkingstick in for a five iron for this site.
I know, I know... Some of you would probably choose a seven
iron but this is a big place and I was thinking about yardage.
We haven't found found the first "rock" worth collecting yet. The
area, so far, has been nothing but hills of saprolite with tons of
really rotten pegmatite running thru it. And we have yet to find
a "Hot Spot" with high concentrations of artifacts either, but they
are scattered, here and there, over most of the 'course'.
Here's one with fresh chippage.
It looks like it might be something........?
Nope, just a flake. The fresh breaks must've been caused by the
bulldozer. You can see how the color of the material is completely
different now, due to oxidation, than when it was worked or came
out of the ground.
Here are a few more pics of flakes and pieces,
It's nice when they are allready washed off for you.
The one in the second pic is a broken point. You can barely see
it's a fresh break, but that tells you the rest of it could still be
around somewhere.
And then, every once in a while......... I was bending over to check
the smokey in the top right of this pic and noticed that little fellow
in the bottom left.
Now, I gotta go for a walk in the rain. ;D
Happy Hunting, Joe
