so what exactly do y'all feed them cows up Canada way? sorry, had to say it. Have absolutely no idea what that is, but shows compressed folded layers - something metamorphic. Interesting - dark layers look like some sort of chert from the pic - notice any conchoidal fractures in it? What about the physical properties of it? ps - did that warm weather I sent ever make it up that way?

The outside stuff is actualy kind of flakey, you can pick little flakes off by hand. No conchoidal fractures.
The warm air did make it, 80F today. Just need some time off work to go collecting now. Maybe Monday, or for sure on the 2nd with our rock club.

Interesting...does high magnification show any structure suggesting an organic origin? I could be totally wrong here, but I see something similar in our local sandstones with hematite formation.
