I got this in the personal collection because of the cool inclusions. Does anybody know what they are? I wish I could take a closer shot..I might have to invest in a micoscope camera thingy. When I look at them with a 20x or 50x loupe and back light them they are a fire engine red/orange..just awesome the color is. The inclusions seem to have a hex type shape but I am not positive..they have some sort of parallel sides to them as far as I can tell not sure if they are a hex type shape . I can see multiple(parellel) faces when viewed from one angle. Any ideas.

Hey AM...My best quess without seeing closer is, Rutile or maybe even Tourmaline. Rutile can have a deep red color, transparent though a back lit angle. Even Tourmaline as you know, can give a deep red color, viewed from an angle. I'm sure that these two have crossed your mind, and you may have already dismissed them as possibilities, but anyway, my best quess. Stibnite, if I am not mistaken will usually always be a silver/metallic.
Rutile derives its name from the Latin rutilus, red, in reference to the deep red color observed in some specimens when viewed by transmitted light.

I am pretty sure they are rutile, like you said Bob. Color and luster are right. I got to looking at it closer last night and I noted that some of the rods/needles cross at roughly(don't have a protractor small enough hehe) that 60 degree angle which would also lead me to believe rutile. Thanks for the help.

When you get another, let me know. Like I have time... but I know you have seen some of the cuts in the inclusion thread over at GO.

Here is a faceted one, george, doesn't relect the light off the facets for obvious reasons

I'll put my vote in for "Schorl" aka black tourmaline. The rutile inclusions I see are a lot finer and terminate differently.

I had a necklace custom made with faceted tourmilated quartz for her before we got married. It i neat stuff sometimes the crystals make neat patterns by chance in the quartz.
