found this while panning a stream the other day - close to where had found the epidote (earlier post) - was searching for "red corundum" that was found in the creek sands 100 years ago... yada yada - anyways - this is what I pulled out of the first pan: this is after some cleaning - the white, I am close to certain is feldspar - kinda crumbly - permeated via-out with this crystal, which in some places is kinda clear (no color). it's small, as best can tell quartz did not seem to scratch it. Very curious, as there are no reports of aqua being found in this area. did find a small piece of corundum (light pink): thanks in advance!

Nose that looks like aqua in feldspar matrix. Almost all of the feldspar I see around here is in some degree of decaying into kaolin. I have found beryl in Jackson county and wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see it in Gainesville. I think that peg across from the old free chapel probably contains some too, sure has a ton of tourmaline and garnets there.

Nope not public land... I make reasonable attempts to get permission from property owners. Sometimes that involves getting permission when I'm asked what I'm doing. I have never had a grading or construction site foreman say no when asked. They usually are just trying to keep people from dumping.
It is schorl. There are also loads of garnets there too. Nice pieces that show metamorphism well.

That is a nice specimen there. It looks like aqua to me. I certainly wish that I could get there to try my hand with those specimens. Sorta of busy now with Relay For Life.
