I found my first arrowhead! I live in Knoxville, Tn so every week I go crystal hunting on Douglas Lake. Today I went up off of hwy. 92 and searched just for a change of pace. The kids were about ready to go...my daughter had made her way up near the car and my son was sitting on the bank throwing rocks. I went to tell my son it was time to go when I notice what I thought was a flint chip sticking out of the mud not even a foot away from my son but when I went to pick it up I got a shock...My first arrowhead.

Nice Find, red! Congratulations on your first whole one and it's a Reel Beauty! Now it's hard to say from looking at a picture. And it could be an arrowhead, which would make it like 500-1000 years old. But because those serrations and the corner-notched base were a popular style in the Early Archaic, I'd have to guess it was about 9000 years old. Maybe a little older. And still perfect after all those years! Great Find! Joe

I would think the serations would mean some kind of stabbing weapon or for a projectile used against other humans. What would the benefit be for the serations when trying to kill game?

Wow, thanks for the information on it Joe. Now I'm feel a little sad seeing it sit there all alone... guess I'll have to go out and find it a friend.

You couldn't pull it out that is for sure, i would think if it went deep enough a deer would bleed out depending on if it was a vital hit, mmm venison!!! Beautiful arrowhead is it obsidian looks like it. Still looks sharp!!
