nothing that great, but i thought it was neat. Pretty sure the black sections are schorl, host rock appears to be some sort of a sandstone. Rounded out by fast water, which left some cool patterns/stripes. Found it the other day in a mountain stream, thought i'd share:

I've got several pieces that look just like that from the Lake Hartwell shoreline in GA. It definitely is tourmaline.

Nice find! Schorl forms in all sorts of things around the GA peidmont. I have found it in weathered pegs and even squeezed flat in between layers of phylite. Check out Balus creek park and round the cove to the left, there is a progression of rocks protruding out that progresses from slate at one end of the cove to schist as it heads out towards the lake. Really interesting metamorphism. You can find schorl in schist and garnets in sandstone too.
