Howdy folks, One of our members, arappaho wanted to see the knapping material from the ranch in Texas where I live. So, here are a bunch of pics.....Mel Edwards formation flint nodules eroding from the creekbank: More: Some the Amerinds had been working: Pedernales Chert ( Amerinds really like this stuff if the chippings are any indication) Carnelian colored flint nodule almost like Brazilian agate"

I don't know much about knapping but I must tell you that stuff does look like it would work well! Some pretty cool looking stuff.

WoW!, Mel. You may as well start knapping, I think you've got enough material there to atleast get the hang of it. ;D Getting good knapping material is most folks main problem with getting started. I'd say you're sitting on top of Fort Knox! I'm not real familiar with the Texas materials, but I know the Pedernales and Alibates cherts are favorites. Thanks for the pics and let me know if you have any questions about knapping 101. I like to just try and knock out some nice 'thin' bifaces for practice. You can always come back and finish them up later. And it won't take you long to realize that, yes, the Amerinds did have swear words. Joe
