Congratulations on learning how to post a pic!
And yep, that's what I'd call it, a serrated something.......
A positive ID is hard because the very bottom part is broken off, as is the point.
The serrations were more a "style of the time" than anything to
do with fishing, and most of that "style" would fall into the Early
Archaic, 8000 - 6000 BC, or 10,000-8000 BP. And these types
were spearheads to spear things with. Deer, fish, it didn't matter
as long as they could eat it.
Some of the different names could
be Kirk, Stanley, LeCroy, Kanawha, etc, but I'd lump it in with the
Straight-Stemmed Kirks at about 7000 BC. That's just a guess
since the base is missing.
And your point has been re-worked. Some points are re-worked
just because they need resharpening, and some get broken and
a new point has to be made of it. Yours looks like it was broken
and then reworked.
Here's a pic of some points that I think would resemble yours if
it were whole. The top two I would call StraightStemmed Kirks.
The bottom two are a little different form of the same Straight-
Stemmed Kirk style. The middle one is just a nice one I threw in
to look at.
And all of these show signs of having been re-
worked to some degree or another.
Just remember where you found it. That's the most important.
Y'all have a GREAT! time at JXR this weekend.
See you at DH! Joe
