What is the white square one in the lower left, I can't see it too well. Is that a worn indention in it?

The best I have been able to find out,it was used to grind small berries and or tree bark / roots for medicines One other reference book said it may have been used to grind various minerals to make pigments for paints Size is about 3 in by 3 in 1.5 thick. It has a beveled edge at the open end of the indentation Any one else ever find or see one of these ?

That makes sense. It looked like some sort of mortar stone. Is the bottom portion broken so that some of it is missing or is that the beveled edge you are talking about? And any idea what the material is?
