??? HORSE TOOTH ???

I found this when I was in college on a Fieldtrip for the 1994 New York State Geological Association Symposium in Rochester. As I remember I stepped off the bus to see this little guy pedastaled and ready for the fortunate rockhound to snag . I have been told that it is anything from a beaver tooth to a horse tooth. Any insight to what type of tooth this is would be greatly appreciated.

My guess would be a grazing animal the size of a horse or cow. Definitely not a beaver though.
