Howdy Folks, Yep, I'm back for a little visit. I have a question about what this bluish black looking crystaline looking material is. We are finding it at Contrary creek and it is located in the contact zone between a queatz vein and the bedrock. We are finding gold there also, which is why we are busting it out. The mineral in question is fairly soft, the crystals look a little like pyrite but are solf a crumbly. It is also loaded with garnets. Any ideas? blue black stuff with garnets The quartz from the vein, you can see where the blue black stuff crumbled away Some of the thousands of garnets in this material The pretty little yellow rocks we're looking for Thanks Tinpan

Biotite? (A black mica.)
Looks an awfully lot like the black stuff we found at the Crabtree that covered the emerald layer. There were some tiny garnets there too, but they were REALLY itty-bitty and mostly found in the white feldspar.
Hope this helps.
