I had been holding my light with my left hand and minerals with my right with no protection. The small lesion started as a pin head that would not heal and grew to about the size of a pea over the past year. I had to have it removed earlier this week. Lesson learned: use gloves. Dennis

Is that from the SW UV or LW UV? I know I have read SW can be a little dangerous. Hope it heals up for you now, looks sore.

I just bought a UV light that shines LW & SW at the same time. Does anyone know how much exposure is bad for skin? My light puts out 6 watts. I have noticed that just looking at minerals under the UV light sort of gives me a headache, and I dont look anywhere towards the light. Maybe it reflects off the rocks and goes back into your eyes a little. I will start being more careful for sure now! I was thinking of putting a UV room in my museum I am trying to open up, but I might re-think the idea if the lights are really that dangerous.

I got the lab report back and it was called a Basal Cell Carcinoma. Seems to be a common skin cancer that most folks get from being in the suns UV rays too long. The hole is healing nicely. I have and use both long and short wave lights but mostly short wave.
