Hi all, What makes the Savannah River Agate fluoresce? I know that the chalcedony is what fluoresces green, but what makes for the orange fluorescence? Marcy

Jim, I don't have a camera, so I can't take one. I'll see if I can get someone to take some pictures. I don't know if the stuff I have is from the same area where our group dug the other week or not. I couldn't make it on that trip. Do you have a light and/or some of this material? Are you a fluorescence buff? That sounds weird, doesn't it? Fluorescence buff. Too tired for eloquent phrasing:) Marcy

Some that I got fluoresces yellow in long wave and some fluoresces orange and green in short wave. Most of it doesn't fluoresce. Some that I cut only fluoresce in the rind part and not down in the rock. They are mostly brown and yellow rocks. The white spots on them fluoresce yellow under long wave. Ken

This stuff is hard to photograph with a digital camera since it is not very bright. Under short wave. Dennis
