First zircon cut. 2.45 carats. Cut in Jeff Graham's "Radiant Antique" design.

Thanks, all. Becky, I'm not sure where this piece came from. Someone gave it to me so I could see what it was like to cut zircon. Truthfully, it is darker than I would look to find in the future.
Most of the zircon you can buy as rough is blue (irradiated) or a brownish/champagne color (natural I believe). It can also be found white(clear) in nature and was once used as the primary diamond substitute as it has a very high refractive index compared to other mineral types such as beryl, quartz, topaz, etc... Nowadays, I guess there are such good lab created substitutes that zircon is not used as much. Not to mention clear zircon is usually not left that way by the miners (instead turned blue and sold) and finding it is both difficult and pricey.
I'm going to be cutting a piece of light blue zircon for another co-worker and am eager to see how that turns out. Should be very sparkly and the lighter color should make a much livelier stone than the red.

Um, I think there is something wrong with it I think you need to send it to me because I need to inspect it more closely. Now, I am not responsible if it never makes it back to you. That postal service can be very careless. *bats eyes innocently*
Seriously that is beautiful!

Hah hah :-) Yeah, that "through sleet, snow, and driving rain..." slogan wasn't made with gem stones in mind. Thanks for the compliments!
