Happy Thanksgiving all! Hope you had a great turkey day. I just finished this up - silver topaz, 9.85 carats, 13.5 mm across. This is an original design and I hope to submit it to Rock & Gem magazine for publishing. I call it "Apparition" and it looks even more so with the frosted pavilion facets.

Hi Dave. That cut is fantastic! Wondering--with all the designs there are, how many "originals" can be left? Must take a good bit of research. fredda

Thanks all!
Fredda, you would be surprised at the limitless(?) variety of faceting designs that are possible. The principle computer program used is called GemCad, and while the innards are very old by software standards and the interface somewhat "clunky", it has stood the test of time as no one has come up with anything better. It has a companion program called DataVue, which is a collection of some 3000+ designs, and if you look online there are hundreds more. Of course, there are then numerous books sold commercially with various designs and there just always seems to be some other different look that you can pop out of gemcad if you play with it long enough. The trick is making a design that is straightforward to cut (as in cutting to meetpoints) and performs well optically.
Take care... Dave
