Allright!!! This pic only took 15 minutes. Incase you are wondering where those Indians got all their quartz from, This outcropping had just been bulldozed thru in one of the new developements. That whole hill is solid quartz.

I wouldn't mind loading it up for you, Becky, I just don't think my truck could handle it.Heehee. And anyone in the area that would like to take a look at the outcrop it is on St.Rd. 1010, also called Cleveland School Road, Johnston Co., right across from Swift Creek Nursery.

Has anyone looked for any signs of crystal formation there? Just curious since there is so much quartz there. Bryan

Funny you guys should bring this up today because I haven't been back to the spot since I took the pic and I have to go to Goldsboro tomorrow so I'm planning on stopping by and seeing what it looks like now. No, it must be the light, DigDug. I think any pinks and reds in the area are caused by iron and red clay. And, Bryan, rarely do I see any crystals in the area. Sometimes you will get 'veins' in the massive quartz where it will grade to a crystal clear, and sometimes it's banded, white, clear, white, clear. But that sure is a good question! Just going to have to get out there and poke around somemore I reckon. Joe

Hey Joe, I sure would like to have a small chunk of that clear quartz from there!! I've cut stones from all over the western Carolinas, BUT none from that far east. Bring some to the roundup and we can work a trade?

No problem Doug. Be happy to. I've been hauling the stuff home for years and will put you together an assortment. I would like someone else to look at the stuff! ;D Joe
